Newer Approach to Dentistry - Dental Implants

Dental implant is a root shaped metal prosthesis placed inside (implanted in) the maxillary arch to replace the missing or broken tooth-root. Thus they are not dependent on neightbouring teeth for mechanical support and looks more natural.
This false root can be used to anchor a false upper tooth - crown, bridge replacement tooth etc.

Thus dental implants (non-visible part) are used to provide mechanical support to the tooth’s upper body that is visible. So that gives cosmetic value too. They are useful in case of good dental & periodental health and with adequate Jaw bone density. They can be used to fill gaps between teeth, replace any broker/damaged tooth, to provide support to a bridge or denture, etc.

There are two types of dental implants :
- SubPeriosteal - the implant is placed on the top of the maxillary bone are helpful in patients with less jaw-bone height.
- Endosteal - implant is actully implanted in the jaw bone. Most commonly used and can be screw, blades, cylinders etc.

So dental implants are a newer way to get a natural looking false teeth with reliable support, strength, durability and esthesis. :-)
