As we discussed before, the branch of orthodontics is continually changing with new and new innovations coming out daily to improve the looks and efficacy of braces system.

What are dental braces ? - Braces are a device made of metal or other material and are used to correct alignment of the mis-aligned teeth. The treatment can last for years and require orthodontist supervision.

The commonly used conventional metal braces have few dis-advantages :

• Cosmetically looks bad
• Difficulty in speaking/eating
• Difficulty in maintaining teeth hygiene
• No fine measurements

Now-a-days, various types of braces are available in the market - the very talked & popular being Invisalign.

Invisalign - as the name suggests - are invisible braces for treatment of misaligned teeth.

The advantages Invisalign braces are :

• Not visible - so cosmetically better.
• Can be removed
• Use of effective metrics to measure misalignment and appropriate correction.

But they are costly and require more care. You have to clean them after every meal and you should not drink stain-causing substances like tea, coffee, cold drinks etc.

The duration of treatment depends on individual case - type of misalignment, severity, age etc. Usually one needs to wear braces for around 2 years and after that, a retainer for about another 1 year.
This invisible braces is a new innovation and still not widely available.
