History of Artificial Insemination
Many people in modern times have pretty strong opinions on the controversial topic of artificial insemination, but most people condemning it do not realize how long it has been around.
Over three centuries ago, in the height of the religious world, it was attempted, and first began being researched. One hundred years later, more reasearch was developing, and made successful, completing the process of artificial insemination for both mammals and reptiles.
In 1899, the development of the process was continued in Russia, and by 1922 there were documented successful attempts made with horses. Around 1950, methods for freezing and thawing sperm had been developed, along with the concept of adding antibiotics to the sperm.
Further improvement in the insemination process was developed through the 70’s and 80’s, however, scientists and researchers continue to develop the procedure in order to make it a safer and more successful option for mothers who could not have had children otherwise.
